2021 Recap!

The year 2021 was a busy one for Overbrook Equestrian! With an ever expanding group of riders and horses, the Overbrook team continues to grow and find new successes. 2021 was a great season of competition, learning, and friendship. Here are our favourite moments from 2021!

March

In March Overbrook Equestrian welcomed our new assistant coach Daryn! We are so excited to have Daryn on our team, what she has taught our riders so far have been so helpful, and we cannot wait to continue our training with her! Thanks for being with us Daryn!

June

Our first show of the year was Edmonton Classic at Amberlea Meadows. We had four horse and rider pairs compete this week, and all of them had great success! Natasha and William had numerous top placings in the 2'9 hunters, ending their week with a 2nd in the hunter classic! Holly and Damzi were champions in the 0.80m jumpers, bringing home a 1st, 4th, and 5th. Alyssa and Rush had a great week in the 0.80 and 0.90m jumpers, winning a 3rd in the 0.80m and two 2nds in the 0.90m, including a 2nd in the classic! Finally, Alaina and Surprise took on their first show together, ending up with a 4th and a 6th in the 0.90m jumpers. We couldn't have asked for a better show to start our season with!

Shortly after, Lauren and Nemo made the trip down to Calgary to participate in the Bow Valley Classic II show at RMSJ. Huge thanks to Shauna for coaching until Tara was able to come down on Friday! Lauren and Nemo put in some good rounds in the 0.90 and 1.0m jumpers, including winning a competitive 0.90m speed class on Saturday. They also made a trip over to hunterland, where the pair placed 4th in the 3'0 adult hunter medal. Great job team!

July

The first show of July was Western Family at Tbird! Tara, Alyssa, Karlee, Natasha, and Holly all made their way safely to BC, where they had a super fun and successful show! Tara and Holly piloted Zantina around the 0.75, 0.85, and 0.90m jumpers, bringing home a 4th and an 8th in some very large and competitive classes! Holly also rode Damzi in the 0.75 and 0.85m jumpers, putting in some great rounds! Natasha and William had a great week in the 2'9 and 3'0 hunters, highlighting their week with an 8th in the children's hunter undersaddle against some incredible horses! Great work Natasha! Alyssa and Rush really kicked some butt in the 0.90m jumpers, bringing home four top 8 placing! Pony power! Karlee and Q also had a great week in the 0.90m jumpers, and even made it through to the callbacks for the CET mini medal! Q the quarter horse showing those warmbloods how it is done! Great job Overbrook crew!

The weekend after Tbird, Alaina and Surprise went down to RMSJ to compete in the Midsummer Classic horse show. Alaina had an incredible week, bringing home a 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th, and a win in the 0.90m jumper speed! Alaina and Surprise were named the champions of the 0.90m jumpers, what a great result in such a competitive division! Congrats you two!

We also went to the Jump with Hope horse show at Amberlea Meadows at the end of July! Natasha and William put in some great rounds in the 2’9 hunters, with an unfortunate injury ending their week early. Maddy and Electra had a great first outing together, competing in the 0.75m jumpers together and bringing home a 2nd and 3rd place finish. Electra also took our youngest member, Casey, in her very first leadline class, which ended in a 5-way tie for first! The future looks bright for the youngest Overbrook rider!

August

In August, Tara, Alaina, and Alyssa went back down to RMSJ to compete in the Rocky Mountain Classic II show. Coach Tara took Zantina in the 0.90m jumpers and came out with some great schooling rounds. Alyssa and Rush, and Alaina and Surprise competed in the 1.0m, competing in the big grass ring for the first time! Both riders had a great week, with Alyssa bringing home a 4th and Alaina a 3rd in their speed class! Congratulations to the team on a great week in Calgary!

September

September was another busy month at Overbrook Equestrian! We started this month out at the Gorsline Fall Show (a personal favourite show for many of our riders). On the Saturday, Laura, Gwen, and Shaemus had an awesome showing. Shaemus and his pony George competed in the jumpers for the first time, bringing home a 3rd in the 0.60m speed and winning his first ever jump off! We are so proud of Shae and George! Gwen and Laura both had some good rounds on the wonderful Electra in the 0.60m and 0.70m jumpers as well! On Sunday, Karlee and Q-bert had some awesome rides in the 0.90m jumpers, just barely out of the ribbons! Alaina and Surprise also had a great showing in the 1.0m jumpers, bringing home a 4th place finish in her speed class! Great outing team!

We also competed at the annual Harvest Horse Show at Amberlea. Maddie and Electra had a great week in the 2’3 and 2’6 hunters, with numerous top six placings! Danaya and Zamira joined us for the Thursday and Friday, and came home with a 4th in the 2’6 hunters! Karlee and Q had another great weekend in the 0.90m jumpers in the grand-prix ring! Alaina and Surprise were on top form as well, bringing home two sixth places in the 1.0m jumpers! What an awesome last outdoor show of the year!

In September, rider Megan also welcomed a new member of the Overbrook family, OTTB Patrick! We can’t wait to see where you two go together! We also welcomed Courtney and her mare Ellie to the team! The progress they have made together already is incredible, and we can’t wait to see you continue to progress!

October

In October, Overbrook held our annual in-barn Halloween show! We had a ton of fun playing games both mounted and on the ground! The highlight of the night was the annual halloween high-jump competition! All our riders achieved or matched their highest jumps ever! The winners of the evening were Alaina and Lauren, with their horses Surprise and Nemo sailing over 1.35m to take the win! We enjoyed a lovely potluck after as well! Everyone had so much fun, and we can’t wait to do it again next year!

November

November was a quiet show month for Overbrook, with only one show, the Winter Welcome at Ponoka. Karlee and Q went down to represent team Overbrook, and what a show they had! The pair stepped up into the 1.0m jumpers like champions, and truly made their team proud! Great job Karlee!

In November we welcomed some new team members as well! Laura’s new project pony Dash joined us in November! We can’t wait to see Dash in the ring soon, look out for the cutest little hunter coming to a show near you! We also welcomed Lauren’s new lease mare, Farrah to the program. Lauren and Farrah have goals of showing in the big medals and 1.15m jumpers in the future, look out for them in the jumpers this year! We also had Julia and her adorable boy Wyatt join us in November! Wyatt is an adorable baby boy who is just learning to jump, but he is already one of Overbrook’s cutest boys! Finally, we welcomed Lucca, who is leasing our adorable golden boy, Nash! We can’t wait to see the two of you progress together!

December

December was another quiet month for Overbrook. We ended our year with our Christmas Party, it was so nice to see everyone outside of the barn all together!

We would like to say a huge congratulations to Overbrook’s Alaina and Surprise, who finished the year as the Jump Alberta 2021 Champions of the 0.90m jumpers! What a great result for your first year together, we can’t wait to see where you two go together!

Overbrook can’t wait for the upcoming year, and the upcoming show season! If you are interested in joining our team for the 2022 season, please reach out to us! We can’t wait to see you all at shows this year! Look out for team Overbrook!
